When you write these codes, write them with a # sign in front of the code.
Also make sure to place a space between each command,
and be sure to enclose it inside of quotation marks.
Like so:

What does it mean?
<BGCOLOR="#XXXXXX"> - is the color of the background
<TEXT="#xxxxxx"> - This is the full page text color.
<LINK="#xxxxxx"> - This is the color of the links on your page.
<ALINK="#xxxxxx"> -This is the color the link will flash when clicked upon.
<VLINK="#xxxxxx"> -This is the colors of the links after they have been visited.

If you want to change the color of a word or frase you would use this example:
